At Home With Hazni
If you've bought something from our online shop, chances are your order was packed by Hazni, our Inventory and Logistics Manager. He makes sure the order you placed is accurately packed, securely properly and delivered to you in a timely manner. But his passion for coffee goes beyond understanding them. Maybe next time, you'll also be able to drink coffee made by him in one of our cafes!
  1. Tell us a little bit about your role at PPP Coffee.

I'm the Inventory and Logistics Manager. I joined PPP Coffee in August 2020 so I would say I'm still pretty new. However, my career have always been built on logistics. I enjoy the challenges and opportunities to problem solve

  2. Favourite coffee?

Black. I'm lactose intolerant hence that will be my go-to. Pourover style to be exact.

  3. What was your first impression of coffee, and how do you feel about coffee now?

I've always been a coffee drinker. That's usually what I'll consider as 'breakfast'. I'm used to the local coffee-shop style coffee - dark roasted, intense. It was only after joining PPP did I learnt more about the different types of beans, processes, taste notes, and brew method.

I remember when I ordered my first coffee at our cafe at Chye Seng Huat Hardware, I added sugar to it and the barista looked stunned. While we are all free to drink coffee however we want to, adding sweeteners to it does alter its taste. Now, I come to appreciate the natural sweetness and pleasant acidity coffee gives.

  4. What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve done because of your passion for coffee?

I just recently completed a professional barista course that I signed up for externally. We used to offer professional classes however they have been  halted since Covid-19. I could have waited but I wanted to go for it so badly I went ahead. I never thought I would go from packing coffee to actually learning to become a barista. And it's great because I can practice right I work!

  5. Do you brew coffee at home? If yes, what’s your setup?

    I do, however I only brew pour-over with a V60

  6. If you could own anything, what would your ideal home setup be?

I would turn a part of my house into a mini coffee station furnished with Rocket Espresso machine, maybe an Appartamento or even better, a R Cinquantotto. And for the grinder, the Baratza Sette 270. I'll add on a Morning machine too, for the lazy days.

  7. Last but not least, what’s the most memorable order you’ve packed?

Oh, this happened just recently on a Friday! A customer placed an order for a Rocket at close to 5pm. We usually deliver these machines personally so as to ensure proper handling. The delivery was made within the next two hours. The customer was so shocked and commented that we have more efficient service than Amazon. It was really nice to hear that, and seeing their smiles when they received the machine, that's all why I love working in logistics.
