To keep up with global demand, coffee in India is primarily produced via conventional agricultural methods. Over time, this results in depleted yields and compromised quality that negatively impacts the longevity of the land and the farmer’s livelihood.
Kodama Estate has been one of the few producers in South India practicing sustainable agronomy and harvesting practices from inception. It is a family-owned third-generation estate in Coorg, Karnataka. Leo Soriano & Catherine Ganapathy are family members and the intermediaries making the coffee accessible to a global market. The coffee we have here is produced on 12 out of the 30 Acres owned by the family.
After targeted improvements in fly-picking and sorting process, this is one of their first few harvests accessible outside of India. The move has led to Kodama impacting other India farmers to engage in the regenerative agricultural practice. We were impressed by the cleanliness and full-bodied nature of this coffee, and are glad to be a part of this evolution, and the potential of Specialty Coffee in India.
